Dream Good Dreams


     Dream good dreams, of running fast, playing hard and having lots of fun! For you will be young and strong again, the pains will be gone and you will be surrounded by friendly faces and voices that will greet you with open hearts and with the kind of love you've always known with me.

     They will be glad to see you, and they will introduce you to other wonderful dogs that just like you were very special and loved by someone back here. Oh, and barking as long and as loud as you like is okay anytime you feel like it!

     When you meet them they will show you where all the chew-toys are, and all of their favorite places to romp. They will take you to fields where the dirt is soft and you can dig as many holes as you want, and where there are no leashes to ever hold you back, and where you have boundless freedom to chase them or let them chase you on grass that is thicker and softer than any you ever saw, and where the water is always cool and fresh and you can have as much as you want whenever you want it! 

      There are also some ornery cats, squirrels and other critters there for you to chase, but you will have to run like the wind to catch them because they are very fast and they are very clever! For you it will be a piece of cake! 

     And speaking of cake, you will find an endless buffet of things you love to eat, and as many tasty snacks as your belly can hold, all yours whenever you want them, and there won't be any pills hidden in the lunch-meat, cheese, or peanut butter because you won't ever need them again! 
    
     Whenever you want it there is a cozy spot outside that is your very own, where the sun will warm you in the daytime as you lay there watching the butterflies and listen to chirping birds, or when you simply want to daydream about all the things that make you happy, or in the evening when all you want is to lay there and look at the stars, hear the crickets or just sniff the night air. 

     You will love your new bed because it will be bigger and softer than the one we shared and you will have it all to yourself and you can stay in it as long as you like! 
   
    How great is that!

     And when it is time for me to join you, you can tell me all about your new adventures and we can talk about all the fun things we did here and how much better my life was because you shared yours with me. 

     I will tell you how much I have thought about you and missed you, and I will tell you how I kept you close to my heart by clutching and sniffing your old blanket every day and holding onto a few things I could never part with because they were yours.

     So be at peace my sweet angel. Keep dreaming the good dreams and thank you for all the love and for being my dog. We'll be together again soon and when we are it will be forever!

Last One Out of The Park Turn Off The Light

          In the winter of  2010 I took an early morning walk across the land that once upon a time was heavily populated by kids nearly every day regardless of the season. A place to go sledding or ice-skating in winter, or to play baseball, maybe spend hours fishing or a little time cooling off in a concrete wading pool that was only about a foot deep during the summer.     Simple pleasures during simpler times. Somewhere to escape and do something interesting away from our bedrooms and backyards and away from the watchful eyes of our parents.
